Common Grackle (Quiscalus quiscula)

Size 10 to 12 inches. Males are black, glossed with blue and bronze hues. Long, wedge shaped tail, yellow eyes; females are smaller and duller.  It's call note is a chuck or cack.

Considered a nuisance by many people due to their habit of flocking together -- upwards into the thousands in the fall and winter! A frequent visitor to feeding stations and is fond of white bread and sunflower seeds. In sun light its sleek black feathers glean with beautiful iridescent hues.

Brown-Headed Cowbird. (Molothrus ater)

Size 6 1/2 inches. Both sexes have dark eyes, stubby bodies and conical bill. Male's brown head stands out on black body. Grasshoppers are a staple food. It's call note is a chuck.

Red-Winged Blackbird (Agelaiusphoeniceus)

Size 6 1/2 inches. Male has a red and yellow shoulder patch and all-black plumage. Females are brown above and heavily streaked with brown below. It's call note is a check or cack.

European Starling (Sturnus vulgaris)

Size 6 inches.  Black, specked white in winter. Greenish and purple in summer with a pointed yellow bill.

They are changing into their winter feathers

It was introduced into the United States in 1890 and has spread prolifically to all parts of the country.

They can mimic the songs of other birds.
